No football prediction can know a result in advance; every match carries its own uncertainty, and no method removes it. That is why it pays to be cautious with sources that present every pick as unmissable or promise implausibly high hit rates without showing any reasoning. The real measure of reliability is transparency: does the source show why a prediction was made and which data it rests on? At WinBall, every prediction is published with its reasoning, built on form, expected goals and data from more than 200,000 past matches. A probability is always presented as exactly that — a probability, nothing more.
BTTS, short for 'both teams to score', is the prediction that each side will score at least one goal in a match. If only one team scores, or the match ends goalless, the prediction fails. When we assess BTTS, we look at both teams' attacking output — goals per game, expected goals, shot statistics — alongside their defensive profile, including defensive stability and clean-sheet rate. When both sides create chances consistently and both defences look vulnerable, the case for BTTS strengthens; if one side plays a cautious, defence-first game, it weakens.
Over/under 2.5 goals analysis assesses whether the total number of goals in a match will finish below or above the 2.5 line: 0–2 goals counts as Under, 3 or more as Over. In this assessment our team weighs both teams' expected-goals (xG) profiles, the likely tempo of the game, and attacking and defensive statistics. A high-tempo meeting of two productive attacks points toward Over; a matchup between two cautious, low-chance-creation teams points toward Under. On WinBall, over/under assessments are always presented together with this reasoning.
Expected goals (xG) is a statistical measure of how likely a chance is to become a goal, calculated from factors such as shot location, angle and the type of chance. A penalty, for example, carries an xG of roughly 0.76, meaning about 76 percent of similar chances are scored. The value of xG in analysis is that it shows what the scoreline hides: a team that lost 1–0 may actually have created far better chances than its opponent. Our team uses expected goals alongside form, squad and shot data, so a team's real productivity can be read more accurately than from the score alone.
When the odds on an outcome drop, it means the market's expectation of that outcome has strengthened — usually because new information, such as team news, an injury or concentrated interest, is being priced in. A drop in odds is not a prediction by itself, but it is a valuable signal showing where expectations are shifting. WinBall's Dropping Odds screen lists notable odds movements across the matches we track, and our team interprets them alongside form and statistical data. The aim is not to create urgency but to report transparently what the market is saying.
